the promise of making drifting fun again has started…and it’s called So-Rad and oh, d-faction is back:
.

What Is SO-RAD?

SO-RAD Stands for the Society Of Regional American Drifting. SO-RAD came about as a necessity. Lets face it the US is a really big place. There are tons of grassroots drifting organizations but nothing tying them all together. Sooner or later you figure who rips and who doesn’t. But then what? After a driver hits hometown hero status they have no where to go. No stepping stone in between Beginner and Professional. They either commit to a National series that might put them in the poor house or keep driving for fun locally.

How does SO-RAD work?

SO-RAD is pretty easy to figure out. Basically you register for your region, normally you pick the region that is closest to you.  You are now Locked into that region for the remainder of the points race. Each region will consist of at least 4 track competitions that will be Judged and points will be awarded based on how you finish on the ladder. The region heads will keep track of points and post them after every round. If you chose to drive in another regions event, you can compete and even win. However you do not accrue any points from the other region. The points awarded from the other region do not get added to your overall points. They just disappear. Meaning the drivers from your rival region can not accrue them either.

After the mandatory four SO-RAD Points Events, The top five Drivers will be invited to the SO-RAD final for a top 32 Battle. But wait, the fun doesn’t end there. There will also be a Region Team Drift Event that will pit region against region for all the bragging rights. You may only drive with your regions team to make it even better the teams will only be three of the five drivers. Chosen by the team, amongst themselves.

So now what ?

This series is low stress and low impact. Information, rules, changes etc will be coming out as we get closer to the events. Contact your region head for local info and keep checking up for more information about the SO-RAD FINAL! Location and Dates will be posted once the ink dries!

See you at the track!

<3 SO-RAD!

D1GP USA DRIFT SERIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

D1GP USA PARTNERS WITH FOX STATION GROUP
& GPI TO BRING 2009 SERIES TO THE MASSES

- Major Station Group Deal Provides Unprecedented Access to World’s Number One Drift Series -

LOS ANGELES (March 12, 2009) – D1GP USA (www.d1gp.com), the motorsports industry’s premier drifting series, announced today it has finalized a deal with GPI Content Corporation and The FOX Television Station Group to air each of the D1GP USA Championship Points Series events in an estimated 45 million homes on FOX owned TV stations. Each event, slated as a one hour special, is anticipated to be broadcast adjacent to high-profile sporting events during the fall 2009 season. The FOX owned and operated broadcast TV stations provide content to nearly 40 percent of the nation’s households and nearly 44 percent of the nation’s Hispanic households, assuring that D1GP USA viewers will be the largest U.S. audience ever to witness drifting.

“The partnership between FOX Station Group, GPI and D1GP USA will be monumental for the sport of drifting in the United States. For the first time, the eyes of the nation will be focused on the drifting world,” said Rich Goodwin, president of D1GP USA. “Not only will die-hard fans be able to catch all of the action, but millions of people who have never been exposed to drifting will have a chance to see the best drivers in the world going head to head – all in spectacular high-definition TV.”

“We are excited to have the D1GP USA Championship Points Series as part of our program schedule in 2009,” said Chris King of FOX’s Station Group. “This HD content is highly entertaining as well as being targeted at a demographic audience which we believe to be a strong asset to our broadcasting operations.”

Discussions are ongoing with several national domestic cable carriers and dozens of FOX network affiliate stations with a mandate of increasing the U.S. television broadcast clearance to some 60 million broadcast households and 70 million cable households by the series premiere. International sales of the D1GP USA Championship TV series have begun and are showing strong results.

Weekly coverage of the D1GP USA Championship Points Series will commence this spring on the weekly syndicated motorsports show Steel Dreams TV (www.steeldreamstv.com), seen in more than 150 U.S. television markets and covering some 70 million households.

The FOX Television Station Group, owned and operated by News Corporation, is one of the largest
TV broadcast groups in the nation. Comprised of 27 stations in 18 markets and covering nearly 40 percent of U.S. television homes; including 9 of the nation’s top 10 TV markets.

wrecked always has the newsness…which i’m always jacking =p

D1GP set to announce FOX Affiliate Deal this week

D1GP USA has torn a page ouf of the former DriftCar America handbook and partnered with the FOX affiliate network. DriftCar America was a failed Drifting organization back in 2006 that made the same announcement. Our website was not around back then but DriftLive covered the story during the time: http://www.driftlive.com/dl/2006/driftcar-america-fires-up-first-season-with-fox-tv-2/

This puts them with a potential reach of 45 million homes which falls about 50% short of most cable networks television reach. The network affilaites will use the program to fill airtime on it’s respective call times. The show will being airing in the fall of this year. Details on the show length and who will be respectivly hosting it or putting the production on do not seem to be available at this time. More details to follow when they become available.

LEAKED: Ken Gushi’s 2009 Scion tC – A new look with bright wheels

Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 09 Mar 2009 at 10:30 pm | Tagged as: Formula D, Ken Gushi, Spy Shots

Looks like we found this image of the 2009 Scion tC render for Ken Gushi. A full new wrap has some big Scion Racing logos and a highlighter yelow graphics wrap. It looks like the wheels to the left in the picture are going on the car from what we can guess. Some new sponsors seem to include Pioneer Audio and perhaps that is Eneos Oil on the front/rear bumper (the little square logos). Wonder when we will see this car released to the public?

New D1GP judge added today – Adam Andretti

Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 20 Feb 2009 at 07:09 pm | Tagged as: D1GP USA, Major Announcements

In some news that I don’t quite know how to present to you D1GP USA has added a judge to the roster, Adam Andretti. In a pure blatant attempt to lend the hype of the Andretti family name they have appointed him a judge in the series. The whole PR issued to the media has nothing to with him and his expertise on Drifting or why he wished to be involved in the series.

After doing our homework we found that he has run in the IPS (farm to the IRL series) in which his best finish was 18th (of 22) in 2007. He crashed during this race and shortly after announced a team for 2008 but never ran a race. It all seems interesting but we liked the first list of judges way better that offered people with expertise and credibility in the Drifting scene. Clearly we are not the only people underwhelmed by this announcement as a quick glance over at Drifting.com echos even worse praises on the new D1GP judge.
