Just read on NHRA.com that Shaun Carlson has passed away over the weekend. No other details are available. I know he had some heart problems that were diagnosed this year. If you don’t know who Shaun is, he was a racer and fabricator. Here’s a bit of info on Shaun from the NHRA.
Former NHRA Pro Stock and Sport Compact racer Shaun Carlson died Oct. 4. He was 35. Carlson previously had been diagnosed with Brugada syndrome, also known as Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome (SUDS), a genetic disease that is characterized by abnormal electrocardiogram findings and an increased risk of sudden cardiac death, but it is unknown whether that contributed to his death.
Carlson, a talented fabricator who is the car owner for former world drifting champion Samuel Hübinette in the Formula Drift series, had been ill the last few years yet continued to field his team.
Carlson, owner of NuFormz Engineering in Ontario, Calif., had been racing since 1999 but first came to national prominence on the sport compact scene where his front-wheel-drive machines were strong and innovative runners; he built the first sport compact drag car with a tube chassis.
Carlson set NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series Pro FWD records for e.t. and speed in May 2003 in Gainesville, the same event in which he captured his first NHRA victory. He finished third the standings on the strength of four semifinal finishes. He also scored a victory at the inaugural Palm Beach NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in Florida in 2005 and also drove to final-round appearance at the 2004 K&N Filters NHRA Sport Compact Fall Nationals at Englishtown. He also was the No. 1 qualifier with at Texas Motorplex in August 2004, a season in which he finished fourth. Outside of the NHRA, he was the 2002 Xbox Cup champion in the Pro Outlaw class.
Carlson got his first taste of NHRA professional racing in 2004, subbed for an injured Darrell Alderman on Pro Stock at the Winternationals , where he grabbed a first-round win and nearly advanced to the semifinals in his debut.
Two years later, he piloted the Team Mopar/SRT Dodge Stratus R/T for Don Schumacher Racing in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Pro Stock Class for the 2006 season. He competed at 15 events but only qualified at one, in Las Vegas in the Spring, and finished 25th in the standings. Carlson used his mechanical skills to assist Allen and Roy Johnson, owners of J&J Racing, in tuning friend Richie Stevens Jr.’s Team Mopar/Valspar Dodge Stratus R/T during the latter part of the season, helping Stevens Jr. earn two late-season wins in 2006.
After leaving drag racing, Carlson became involved in professional drifting. NuFormz Racing maintained the Mopar Viper Competition Coupe that Hübinette piloted to the 2004 inaugural Need for Speed Underground Formula D Drift Series championship. Hübinette earned two wins for NuFormz Racing in 2005 and scored a runner-up finish in the Formula Drift standings then won the 2006 Formula D championship on the strength of three wins. Hübinette captured a fifth-place finish in the final 2007 Formula Drift points standings and finished second again in 2008 on the strength of three podium finishes in his NuFormz Racing-prepped Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10.
Carlson was named as one of the Top Ten Innovators of All Time in the sport compact and drifting scene, by Super Street magazine.

So this is where I am suppose to do some intro with like a million pics of how I first started in drifting and all that like you see on other blogs right? Wrong.
So here is what I will do, one before, back in 2005
and one now all smashed up and not getting used.
Anyone got a twin cam 240 on coil overs that wants to trade?
O and here is the DD/autox/backup drift car errr. truck.
In a surprising turn of events. Mopar has pulled out of backing Sam Hubinette and the Nuformz Racing Dodge Viper/Challenger team. In a post ran on Sam Hubinette’s twitter last night. He confirmed that “Mopar pulled out of our Drifting program. Crazy times!!” We tried to reach Mopar’s PR company and was unavailable to get a quote from them at this time. As Sam posted, these really are “crazy times” for all. We wish Sam and the Nuformz team good luck wih locating a new sponsor.
rumors going around DA may be there. wowzers i can’t wait. you need to be at this event or you’re not worth the quick-release nardi you waited 5 months for…
We are dedicating this event to RICH BIBLE and ALL Club Loose proceeds will go to benefit his daughter, Camila. E-town has also confirmed that they will also contribute to this cause and a portion of their profits will also be donated to Camila. Rich was an original East coast ripper. [He was like a brother to many Club Loose and Drift Alliance people, an awesome dude and played a huge role making East Coast drifting what it is today.] .
There will also be Under Destruction shirts and stickers available with the profits also going to Camila. .
So whether your driving or not, everyone definitely needs to make it out to this. Besides possibly being the most awesome drift event to ever take place in the world, this is also for a great cause. .

Fire extinguishers are highly recommended, I mean they’re like $7 at home depot, just buy one. And all the other easy, safety type stuff, just make sure it’s done. You will NOT be allowed to drive until your car passes tech. .
